Marcus Bleasdale's Rape of a Nation
The photographer Marcus Bleasdale, who has spent eight years covering the brutal conflict here in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the heroism and resilience of its people, has an extraordinarily powerful photo and video montage currently up on the Mediastorm site. Entitled Rape of a Nation, this mosaic of hauntingly beautiful photographs and appalling stories of the exploitation and violence the Congolese people have been subjected to by a variety of foreign interests and their own political-military actors, can be viewed in its entirety here. Bleasdale’s book of photos from his time here, One Hundred Years of Darkness, is also worth a look.
